Navjot Singh Sidhu to contest from Amritsar East constituency

The Congress party has put an end to all speculations over the fate of the cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu and declared him the Punjab assembly candidate from Amritsar East constituency, in the upcoming elections of the state.

Amritsar: The Congress party has put an end to all speculations over the fate of the cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu and declared him the Punjab assembly candidate from Amritsar East constituency, in the upcoming elections of the state.

The Congress party on Saturday confirmed that Sidhu will contest from Amritsar East constituency in the upcoming Assembly polls in the state. "Navjot Singh Sidhu will contest from the constituency of his wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu as a Congress nominee," Punjab Congress Committee president (PCC) Captain Amarinder Singh stated.

According to the political sources Sidhu would be addressing nearly 70 political rallies in support of the grand old party which has been out of power in the state since 2007.

Punjab will go to polls on February 4 whereas counting of votes will be done on March 11.
