Today is August 29, the birthday of hockey magician Major Dhyanchand. This day is celebrated every year as National Sports Day.

On this special occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Major Dhyanchand on Saturday and also praised the coach and his family of talented athletes.

The day to celebrate achievement of Sportspersons:

PM Narendra Modi tweeted and wrote - Today on National Sports Day, we pay tribute to Major Dhyanchand, whose magic of hockey stick can never be forgotten.

Today is also the day to appreciate the outstanding support given by families, coaches and support staff for the success of our talented athletes.

National Sports Day is a day to celebrate the achievements of all those sportspersons who have represented India in various sports and made our nation proud. ”

He also wrote- “Government of India is making all kinds of efforts to popularize sports and support sports talent in India.

I urge everyone to make sports and fitness a part of their daily routine. There are many advantages to doing this. Everyone can be happy and healthy. "

Major Dhyanchand is known by the world as a hockey wizard. He was born on 29 August 1905 in a Rajput family in Allahabad district of UP.

He is remembered as the greatest hockey player of the world. He won three Olympic gold medals in the years 1928, 1932 and 1936. His on-field performance was so spectacular. Because of which people used to call him the wizard of hockey.

Padma Bhushan Major Dhyanchand:

He had scored over 400 goals in his playing career. He was later awarded the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian honor of the country in 1956 by the Government of India, in recognition of his contribution to the game.
