New Delhi: A department of National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has discovered two huge holes on Sun’s surface.

The Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) department said that solar winds produced from these holes (coronal holes) have the potential to not only create geomagnetic storms on the earth which can disturb communications in all forms, but also affect astronauts' on deeper space mission.

Fact factory:

  • The holes are less dense and have lower temperature than the rest of the Sun's surface.
  • They have little solar material and appear much darker than their surroundings.
