Muzaffarpur: As many as seven policemen and a Naxal were killed, on Saturday, when a prison van dashed into a truck in Sitamarhi district of Bihar.

According to the police officials, “the accident happened near Gaighat village under the jurisdiction of Runnisaidpur police station in early morning.”

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Town), Ashish Anand said that the van was carrying two Naxals from Bhagalpur to Sitamarhi court when the accident. Twelve policemen were also in the van.”

He further said, “One Naxal and seven policemen died after the accident and five other policemen were admitted to a nearby hospital.

The prison van driver Munna Singh also lost his life.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police said that while four policemen died on the spot, the Naxal and three other policemen died on the way to the hospital. “All injured policemen and the seriously injured Naxal were later shifted to a private hospital,” further stated the DSP.
