Adhar card information of MS Dhoni leaked, Ministry apologises

New Delhi: It turned out to be a privacy nightmare for cricketer MS Dhoni when the Indian government tried to use a photograph of him to advertise the Aadhaar services.

The CSC e-governance services of India tried to explain how simple and easy it is to get Adhar services, through a tweet that had the photo of Dhoni, on Tuesday last.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni was seen authenticating fingerprints to avail Aadhaar services, however, along with the photo of the former Indian captain, the official Twitter account of CSC also tweeted his Aadhaar registration details in a screenshot, something that led to a number of furious tweets from Dhoni's wife Sakshi Singh.

CSC e-governance on their official Twitter page put a picture containing an application form of MS Dhoni which led Sakshi to respond with "Is there any privacy left? Information of Aadhaar card including application is made public property. Disappointed," to the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ravi Shankar Prasad, who also had tweeted the information that Aadhaar service had been delivered to the Indian cricketer.

The minister immediately responded to the tweet of Mrs Dhoni and thanked her for bringing the matter to his notice, assuring her of immediate action. The tweet was removed after that.

Although it was not a deliberate breach of private data, it shows the casual attitude of Indian government agencies towards privacy and private data in India.
