Medical oxygen is very important for all of us. Its need was felt the most during the corona epidemic. Its demand is increasing rapidly all over the world. But it is not available in such quantity. This is the reason why about 5 billion people are not able to get medical oxygen every year. In India alone, 5.68 lakh metric tonnes are needed for 9 crore patients. This has been revealed in the report of 'The Lancet Medical Commission'. After which the question has started arising that how can its shortage be met.

Medical oxygen is needed in conditions like any operation or emergency situation, asthma, serious injury and care of mother and child during pregnancy and delivery, but its shortage is raising concerns. The poor countries are the most affected by this. It is estimated that two-thirds of the world's population is not getting enough medical oxygen. According to the commission, this was also the biggest cause of death in Corona. It will play an important role in the epidemic in future too.

Only one out of every three gets oxygen

Studies say that 82% of patients requiring medical oxygen live in lower and middle income countries. Out of these, only one out of three gets oxygen when needed during surgery or in a serious medical emergency, 70% of the patients are deprived of it.

Why is there a shortage of medical oxygen

During 20-2021, many people died due to the second wave of corona. The experts of the commission are concerned that if such a situation arises again in the future, then preparations will have to be made in advance to prevent it. The Lancet Global Health Commission's report on medical oxygen supply is the world's first estimate. In which it is told that the distribution of medical oxygen is very uneven. In such a situation, every country needs to be alert and arrangements should be made in advance.
