Massive fire breaks out in New Delhi, five killed

New Delhi: Five people, including a six-year-old girl, have died and four others were injured in a fire that broke out in a slum here on Tuesday.

The incident took place in a slum cluster in the Okhla Industrial Area on Monday night last.

Nine people were trapped in the blaze, of whom five are dead. The victims were rushed to the Safdarjung and ESI hospitals, four of them were declared brought dead, and the fifth died during treatment.

  • The others have been admitted to the Intensive Care Units (ICU) of the hospitals.
  • The fire broke out when a gas cylinder leaked in the slum cluster.

The police stated, "The cylinder and a gas stove were placed at the only entrance of the cluster since a marriage was to take place in two days."

The fire trapped the residents of the slum, a senior police officer added.

According to the police, those killed have been identified as Kushi(6), Sasikanth(19) Usha(42) Lalsa and Santra.
