SC allows Italian marine Massimiliano Latorre to stay at home

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed Italian marine Massimiliano Latorre, who has been accused of killing Indian fishermen, to remain in his country till the jurisdiction issue is decided.

The order came in the wake of Lattore’s petition to the apex court seeking to stay in Italy like his companion Salvatore Girone. The Center has been directed by the Court to submit quarterly reports on the progress of the case at the international tribunal.

It may be recalled that both the Italian marines are undergoing trial in India for allegedly slaying two fishermen off the coast in Kerala in 2012. Moreover, Latorre had told the top court that he preferred to remain in Italy till the final decision is made.
