Marriott overtakes Taj, becomes largest hotel company of India
New Delhi: Overtaking Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces, global hotel chain Marriott has officially become the largest hospitality company of India with 70 operating hotels (18000 rooms) across the country.
Marriott International on Friday announced to have merged with Starwood Hotels and Resorts bringing together as many as 30 brands and creating the world’s largest hotel company.
“The new merged entity is likely to give India 80 new hotels in the next few years. Moreover, we already operate 14 brands across the country and the 15th one will be opening very soon in Goa,” said an official source.
- According to sources, India is the company’s second most significant market after China.
- The newly merged company will now operate or franchise as many as 5,700 properties, 1.1 million rooms.
