New Delhi: Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee has sworn in as Chief Minister at Raj Bhavan today. With this, Didi became the Chief Minister of Bengal for the third time.

Mamata Banerjee takes oath as CM:

A government official said that the swearing-in ceremony was carried out with utmost simplicity in view of the spread of the coronavirus epidemic in the state. Mamata Banerjee, who became the Chief Minister for the third time in a row, announced the event with the simplicity of swearing in only after winning the assembly elections on 2 May.

I congratulate Mamata Ji on her third term. Our priority is that we must bring an end to this senseless violence that has affected society at large. I have every hope that the CM on an urgent basis will take all steps to restore rule of law: West Bengal Governor

Invitation to Saurabh Ganguly:

The official said on Tuesday that invitations were sent to former Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, Leader of Opposition Abdul Mannan and CPI-M Veteran Leader Biman Bose for the ceremony. Also, former Indian cricket captain and current BCCI chairman Saurabh Ganguly was also invited. No other state chief minister or politician was called for the swearing-in ceremony that began at 10.45 am, keeping the Corona pandemic in mind.

The official said that on Wednesday, only Mamta Banerjee has sworn in on behalf of TMC. Other ministers in his cabinet will be sworn in later. TMC sources said that Mamta's nephew and TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee, election strategist Prashant Kishore and TMC leader Firhad Hakim were also present at the ceremony.

According to sources, soon after taking oath, Mamata Banerjee will go to the State Secretariat, where she will be given the Guard of Honor by Kolkata Police.
