Hafiz Saeed officially declared 'terrorist' by Pakistan

Islamabad: Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief and 26/11 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed has been declared a terrorist by Pakistan.

The Dig (Lahore) Dr. Haider Ashraf said that this move has been taken after pakistan Police on Monday removed barricades placed by members of Saeed's Jamaat-ud-Dawah outside the group's headquarters.He stated, "We have removed blockades from 26 places. including JuD headquarters in accordance with the Supreme Court's orders."

On Tuesday, President Mamnoon Hussain signed an ordinance that brings all individuals and organisations banned by the United Nations Security Council, like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jamaat-ud-Dawah, and Harkat-ul Mujahideen, under the ambit of the amended Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), 1997.

About Hafees Saeed:

  • He was the mastermind of the terror attack which took place in 2008 in Mumbai. The attack took more than 166 lives and left many others injured.
  • He also planned an attack in United State in 2012 in which six American citizens were also killed. The US Government also announced the bounty of $10 million on Hafiz Saeed.
