Maharashtra farmer commits suicide; blames BJP govt. in the suicide note

Around 10,000 farmers have committed suicide in the past three years in Maharashtra. Opposition parties in Maharashtra have claimed that during the tenure of the BJP government in last three years, 10,000 farmers have committed suicide due to crop failure and debt. Despite the announcement of the farmers' debt waiver by the government, farmers are not getting any relief in the state.

Delhi Tihar jail inmate commits suicide

Mumbai: A 52-year-old farmer committed suicide in Yavatmal district of Maharashtra and reportedly accused BJP-Shiv Sena government of the state.

According to the police, Dhanraj Baliram Navhte, a resident of Pahpal of Pandharwada tehsil, blamed the BJP-Shiv Sena government for its misery in the alleged suicide note. The police has sent the body to the post-mortem and is taking further action. The real reason behind the suicide is still being investigated.

A senior police official reported that Navhte had four acres of land and he had taken a loan of two lakh rupees from a local Mahajan. His family says that he was troubled by the ruins of crops for the last several years. Mahajan used to ask his loan back everyday.

On Wednesday, he headed to his married daughter's house, but when he did not return by Thursday evening, the family began searching for him. Shortly, his body was found in a pit in his farm. According to preliminary investigation, he committed suicide by drinking pesticides.

Around 10,000 farmers have committed suicide in the past three years in Maharashtra. Opposition parties in Maharashtra have claimed that during the tenure of the BJP government in last three years, 10,000 farmers have committed suicide due to crop failure and debt. Despite the announcement of the farmers' debt waiver by the government, farmers are not getting any relief in the state. Suicides are ongoing in the endangered areas. Official statistics show that 907 farmers have committed suicide since January in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra.
