Maharashtra ATS: Nine held for alleged ISIS links, planned mass killing

Mumbai: Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad, on Monday arrested nine terrorists including a 17-year-old before they could execute mass-killing by mixing poison in food and drinks.

The group had formed an organisation 'Ummat-E-Muhammadiya' and were in touch with the banned terror outfits (ISIS). In fact, among them is the son of Rashid Malbari - a close aide of Dawood Ibrahim.

The terror group was planning a mass killing ahead of Republic Day, by mixing poison in food and drinks at some gathering and were reportedly in touch with someone from ISIS, based out of India, as per ATS officials.

Most of the arrested people are well qualified with two engineers, one student pursuing engineering, one pharmacist and one a minor was a class 11th student.

Earlier, Maharashtra ATS had nabbed nine men including a teenager, over the last two days (Monday late night and Tuesday early morning) for alleged links with banned terror outfits ISIS, from Maharashtra’s Mumbra, Thane and Aurangabad.

The terror suspects were arrested for criminal conspiracy and unlawful activities and were booked under Indian Penal Code’s Section 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy) and relevant provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Bombay Police Act.

The ATS had been tracking the suspects quit for a while and after the tip-off the search was conducted at various places in the state.
