Lord Krishna was a legendary eve teaser, says Prashant Bhushan

New Delhi: In a controversial remark, former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Prashant Bhushan on Sunday dared Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to rename the 'anti-Romeo squad' into 'AntiKrishna squad', describing Lord Krishna as a 'legendary eve teaser'.

Backing Romeo and criticising the UP government's initiative against eve-teasing, Bhushan took to Twitter and said that he loved only one girl while Lord Krishna was the actual legendary eve-teaser.

The statement sparked a controversy in the political arena forcing the lawyer and Swaraj Abhiyan founder to give clarification over the issue.

"My position is: By the logic of Romeo Brigade, even Lord Krishna would look like eve teaser."

In another tweet, he added, "We have grown up with legends of young Krishna teasing Gopis. The logic of Romeo squad would criminalise this.Didn't intend to hunt (hurt) sentiments."

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) quickly took a pot shot at Bhushan claiming that the lawyer has insulted the Hindu God.

BJP leader Bhupendra Yadav said, "Before making such disgraceful comments, Bhushan should go through India's tradition and mythology."

BJP National Spokesperson Sambit Patra described the comment as 'saddening'.

In a tweet written in Hindi, Patra said, "It takes several births to understand Lord Krishna, and suggested that it was unfortunate that the deity's name was being politicised.

Delhi BJP spokesperson Tejinder Bagga claimed that he has written a letter to the police appealing for registering a case against Bhushan under IPC sections 153(a) and 295. The complaint was sent to the Tilak Marg police station, he said.

"Bhushan always uses this cheap gimmick to stay in limelight. He must apologise for his remark," he added.
