New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday started hearing a petition challenging the November 9 order of the Bombay High Court by Arnab Goswami, Editor-in-Chief of Republic TV. In which the High Court refused to grant him interim bail in a case of abetting the interior designer for suicide in 2018.

A Bench headed by Justice Chandrachud says Arnab Goswami and two other accused will get release on interim bail on a bond of Rs 50,000. It directs the Commissioner of Police to ensure the order followed immediately.
During the hearing, Justice Chandrachud told senior advocate Harish Salve, appearing on behalf of Arnab Goswami, "Before you put your side, there is an aspect in these cases that we are challenging in which the primaries are challenged." The only request is for the cancellation of the FIR.
"If we as a constitutional court do not lay down law and protect liberty then who will?... If a state targets an individual like that, a strong message needs to be sent out...Our democracy is extraordinarily resilient," says Justice Chandrachud of Supreme Court
During the hearing, Harish Salve also referred to the petition filed by the Hansa Research Group in the High Court and said that the TRP scandal case should also be linked to it. At the behest of the government, the Mumbai Police is constantly trying to harass his client. It can be easily understood what those people are trying to do and what their target is.
Suicide case of Anvay Naik :
For information, let us tell you that Mumbai Police has arrested Arnab Goswami in a two-year-old case last week. Arnab’s name in case of abetting an interior designer and his wife to commit suicide.
According to media reports, Arnab Goswami and two others allegedly did not pay the dues to a 53-year-old interior designer. The daughter of interior designer Anvay Naik had claimed that the police had not investigated the case for non-payment of dues. So father Anvay and his mother had to commit suicide.
A suicide note allegedly written by Anvay Naik found. Mentioning that the accused did not pay him Rs 5.40 crore. Police arrested Arnab from his house in Lower Parel under sections 306 and 34. Apart from Arnab, Feroz Mohammed Sheikh and Nitesh Sarada are also in this case. They all are in police custody.
