New Delhi: The government deciding not to extend the exemptions of 500-rupee notes has announced that they could be used only till December 15 midnight. The old Rs 500 notes can be used till Thursday midnight and from tomorrow onward the person who is having it can deposit it in his bank account till December 31.

There were, however, reports of the notes not to be used from midnight of Wednesday last, but the Finance Ministry had waived off all such rumours. The Finance Secretary Shaktikanta Das took to twitter to convey that the old Rs 500 notes could be used till December 15 midnight.

1000- rupee notes were already banned while expiry for Rs 500 comes today.

The relaxation given by the Centre regarding notes to be accepted in exchange on necessities such as at medicine shops and for paying public utility services such as payment of electricity and water bill would also end from December 15 midnight.

The mobile recharge facility provided by different companies with old Rs 500 notes will also not be available.

The notes would now be submitted only in the banks till December 31.
