WHY DO WE CELEBRATE HINDI DIWAS ?

As a language, Hindi not only commands respect, but is also widely spoken; its popularity is sustained by Hindi cinema as well. The language has other variants as well, like Awadhi, Braj and Khadi Boli.It means emotions to the people who speak Hind.

When India became independent, there were efforts by the government to widen the reach of the language. But well before that, in 1925 Karachi session, the Indian National Congress had decided for Hindustani, to blend the Hindi and Urdu language — to be made the lingua franca of independent India. This resolution however was modified later and with the coming of Hindi Sahitya Sammelan, it was suggested that Hindi alone be made the national language.

After several discussion and debates on what should be our national language, It was concluded that the Constituent Assembly of India had, in 1949, recognised and adopted Hindi as an Indo-Aryan language and the official language of the newly formed nation. Written in Devanagari script, Hindi is one of the two official languages of the Union government, the other being is English. It is one of the 22 scheduled languages of the Republic of India.

Hence, We celebrate Hindi Diwas because we acknowledge the significance of the language that is spoken by approx 44% people in India, who identify Hindi as their mother tongue as of 2011 census.
