Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh continue to freeze in sub-zero temp

Srinagar/Shimla: No respite from the bone chilling night temperature in the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh region as severe cold wave triggered on Saturday. Himachal Pradesh too observed chilly day with temperature in many areas staying below freezing point.

An official of the Met department said the minimum temperature was minus 7.2 degree Celsius in Srinagar.

In Pahalgam, the temperature was minus 8.3 degree Celsius while it was minus 7 degree Celsius in Gulmarg.

At minus 21.1 degree Celsius, Drass recorded the night's lowest temperature, and the town was coldest in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.

Leh recorded minus 17.5 degree and Kargil minus 16.7 degree as the minimum temperature.

In Himachal Pradesh, Kalpa in Kinnaur district was freezing at minus 2.4 degree Celsius, while the temperature was minus 2.6 degree Celsius in Manali, 2.2 degrees in Dharamsala, 1.9 degrees in Kufri and 4.1 degrees in Dalhousie.

The Met Office has forecast snow and rain in the state due to active western disturbance from January 1.
