Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court has cancelled the order of the Uttar Pradesh government slapping National Security Act against Kamlesh Tiwari, acting president of Hindu Mahasabha.

It has held his booking for one year under the Act as illegal. Section three and sub-section three of the Act under which he was booked provides for imprisonment for only three months, the Bench observed.

Tiwari was booked under the Act in December last year which was challenged by his wife, Kiran Tiwari . The order was issued in the wake of a remark made by him against a Muslim prophet , prophet Mohammad .

The remark had angered Muslims who had held demonstrations in some parts of the state including Lucknow and Muzaffarnagar.

Tiwari has already spent more than three months in jail, permissible under the Act. Will any action be taken against officials responsible for illegal confinement ? asks his wife. The bench ,however, has not made any remark against them.
