J&K: Gunfight erupts in Sopore town, Two Lashkar terrorists trapped

Srinagar: A gunfight broke out, on Thursday, between the security forces and terrorists in north Kashmir's Sopore town, police said.

Upon receiving a tip-off about the terrorists, the security forces started a search operation in Warpora village and laid siege on the area, after which two men belonging to the terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba were trapped, according to police.

"As the cordon around the hiding terrorists was tightened, they fired at the security forces triggering the ongoing encounter," the police said.

Authorities not only suspended mobile Internet services in Sopore and adjoining areas but also have imposed restrictions in the town to maintain law and order.

“In view of the apprehension of law and order problem, restrictions under sec 144 CRPC are hereby imposed on the gathering of more than 4 persons in entire Sub-division Sopore with effect from evening 21-02- 2019 till further orders,” Additional District Magistrate Sopore stated in the issued order.
