The results of the 2019 Jharkhand assembly elections will be announced today to determine the fate of the Raghubar Das-led Bharatiya Janata Party government in the state. Counting is being held in 81 constituencies of Jharkhand that voted over five phases in December.

Lucknow: The results of the 2019 Jharkhand assembly elections will be announced today to determine the fate of the Raghubar Das-led Bharatiya Janata Party government in the state. Counting is being held in 81 constituencies of Jharkhand that voted over five phases in December.

The primary fight during this election is between the BJP and the Congress- Jharkhand Mukti Morcha alliance. A part or alliance will need to win in at least 41 assembly seats to stand a chance at forming government in Jharkhand. Counting of votes have begun at 8 am.

Jharkhand election was fought on local issues: Shivraj Chouhan

Reacting to the impending BJP defeat in Jharkhand, former MP CM and BJP leader Shivraj Chouhan told sources, "Jharkhand election was fought on local issues and not national issues. It can't be seen in the light of national events. Jharkhand elections won't affect polls in other states as every state has its own issues."

ECI trends update: JMM-Congress leading on 40 seats, BJP on 29

Trends at 10.30 am suggest that the JMM-Congress alliance can be sure of obtaining a majority in Jharkhand. The grand alliance is currently leading on 40 seats while the BJP trails on 29 seats. The JVM and AJSU are leading on 4 and 2 seats respectively.

After BJP, Congress gets in touch with JVM, AJSU

After the BJP reached out to JVM, Congress leader and Jharkhand in-charge RPN Singh told sources, "We are in touch with the JVM leadership. We have had a word with their leader. Sources said that the Congress is also in touch with 2 MLAs of the AJSU. The sources suggest that Congress hopes to pick up six seats in places where the alliance is trailing by 300 to 400 votes.

Voting trends at 10 am suggest that the JMM-Congress-RJD alliance has crossed the majority mark in Jharkhand. The grand alliance is currently leading on 42 of 81 seats while the BJP is maintaining leads on 29 seats.

Gomia: AJSU Party candidate Lambodar Mahto leads over Babita Devi of JMM by 2,217 votes in Jharkhand's Gomia seat.

Dhanwar: Former Jharkhand chief minister Babulal Marandi of JVM (P) leads in Dhanwar seat.

Godda: Sanjay Prasad Yadav of RJD leads over Amit Kumar Mandal of BJP by 3,315 votes in Godda seat of Jharkhand.
