IAF plane taking Prez for Jayalalithaa cremation returns due to snag

New Delhi: An Indian Air Force (IAF) plane carrying President Pranab Mukherjee, en route to Chennai, for the burial ceremony of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday returned mid-way due to a technical snag.

According to the sources, after around 30 minutes from the take-off from the Palam Technical Area, the aircraft suffered a technical issue and was taken back to the base.

The aircraft was near Agra when the snag was traced.

President has now been provided another aircraft and will soon depart for Chennai to pay homage to Jayalalithaa, who died on Monday night.

According to the officials, President would be air-borne again in next 40 minutes to one hour.
