Indira Gandhi's 101 Birth anniversary: PM, Sonia Gandhi, RaGa pay tribute

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Pranab Mukherjee, Hamid Ansari paid tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 101th birth anniversary.

Other Congress leaders paid respect to the iron lady at Shakti Sthal in Delhi. Indira Gandhi was born on November 19 in the year 1917 and assassinated on October 31, 1984.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to pay tribute to India's former Prime Minister on her birth anniversary.

He Tweeted, "Tributes to India's former Prime Minister, Mrs. Indira Gandhi Ji on her birth anniversary."

Indira Gandhi was assassinated by two of her body guards in 1984, who had shot her at her Safdarjung road residence in the capital.

Born to India's first prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Kamala Nehru, Indira Gandhi served as the prime minister for three terms lasting almost 16 years.
