Indian Army guns down Amarnath mastermind LeT commander Abu Ismail

Srinagar: In a major success, Indian Army on Thursday gunned down mastermind of Amaranth attack, Lashkar commander Abu Ismail along with another LeT militant in Armagh area of Nowgam here.

Security forces following specific information about the presence of militants in Aarigam (Nowgam) village in the outskirts of Srinagar city launched a cordon and search operation on Thursday.

"LeT terrorist Abu Ismail of Pakistan along with his accomplice killed in Nowgam. Huge achievement for security forces," Jammu and Kashmir police official said.

"Bodies of both the terrorists have been recovered. And Ismail's associate is identified as Chotta Qasim. He is also a Pakistan resident," the official said.

It may be mentioned here that army and J&K police has jointly started a massive manhunt to track down Abu Ismail.

At least seven pilgrims including six women, were killed and 19 were injured in deadly attack on Amarnath Yatra.

The killing of Abu Ismail is seen as a major success by army as it has gunned down fourth top terrorist in the Kashmir valley in a year. Earlier, terrorists including Burhan Wani, Sabzar Bhat and Abu Dujana were killed by security forces.
