New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday released a list of the names of brave policemen who will be honored on the occasion of Independence Day. The Gallantry Award will be given to 215 soldiers, 80 to the President's Police Medal and 631 to the Medal for their meritorious work.

ITBP also recommended name of soldiers:

Apart from this, the ITBP has also recommended before the Ministry of Home Affairs the names of the 21 soldiers for gallantry medals who faced China with gusto in the Galvan Valley of East Ladakh.

Every year the Ministry of Home Affairs announces medals for soldiers in different states for exceptional and remarkable service and contribution. State governments recommend the names of policemen for these awards.

Jammu Kashmir tops the list with 81 medals of Police Personnel:

Demonstrated courage and valor while facing China in eastern Ladakh. It is noteworthy that in the month of June, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has recommended the gallantry medals to these brave soldiers. 20 Indian soldiers were martyred in the violent conflict with China.

The list of recipients of police medals for courage and bravery includes 81 police medals for Jammu and Kashmir police and 51 for CRPF. Apart from this, Shaheed Mohan Chand Sharma will be posthumously awarded the Police Medal in the 2008 Batla House Encounter.
