PM Modi congratulates Htin Kyaw on becoming Myanmar President

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday took to twitter to congratulate U Htin Kyaw on becoming the first civilian President of Myanmar.

“Congratulations and best wishes to U Htin Kyaw on being elected President of Myanmar! Will work together to strengthen India-Myanmar ties,” tweeted Modi from his twitter handle.

Htin Kyaw was elected as the President in Parliamentary voting.

Htin Kyaw is a respected writer and longtime close friend of Aung San Suu Kyi, the Burmese stateswoman.
