Centre needs to revise its LWE strategy, says Home Minister Rajnath Singh

Raipur: After the nation lost its 25 CRPF jawans, Home Minister Rajnath Singh has admitted that the Indian government needs to revise the Left Wing Extremism Division (LWE) strategy.

The Home Minister on Tuesday stated that he would be meeting the officials of all the state governments on May 8 and will discuss the need of a new strategy to be followed to handle the violent nature of these extremist groups.

"We have decided to revise our LWE strategy if need be. We have called a meeting of officials of various state governments on May 8th," HM Rajnath Singh said.

The Home Minister also condemned the attack that took place on Monday last in Sukma, leaving 25 CRPF soldiers dead. "It was a Cowardly act. Centre and state governments will together work and take action. This is an act of desperation," Singh stated.

The Home Minister and Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Raman Singh along with MoS Home Hansraj Ahir also paid tribute to the martyrs who lost their lives in Sukma. The ministers also met the injured CRPF personnel, at Ramkrishna Care Hospital.

The attack:

  • The pre-planned massacre, which is the deadliest attack by Maoists since 2010, started at around 1 pm when the personnel of the 74 Battalion were sanitizing the area for the construction workers, who were building a road.
  • The Maoists firstly sent out locals to know about the position of the CRPF officials, said one of the survivors.
  • Sukma belongs to south Bastar, which has been under Maoist threat since decade.
