Haven't filed your ITR yet! Not to worry as CBDT extends last date

New Delhi: The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has announced the extension of the deadline for income tax returns. The dates have been extended after the ITR (Income Tax Return) filing system was overloaded.

The new deadline has been fixed at August 5 by the Centre.

According to the officials, the system had already received over 2 crore returns and was overloaded.

The CBDT had, however, earlier denied reports of the extension of the last date (July 31).

It is to be recalled that Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had launched the taxpayers service module and mobile app 'Aaykar Setu', earlier in July, to render better services to taxpayers and reduce grievances.

The department had also asked taxpayers to declare cash deposits made in bank accounts aggregating to Rs 2 lakh or more, post demonetisation, in the ITRs. The ITRs filed are pertained to fiscal or assessment year 2017-18.
