Dandi: Prime MinisterNarendra Modi on Wednesday has dedicated the 'National Salt Satyagraha Memorial' to the nation at Dandi on Mahatma Gandhi’s 71st death anniversary.

The memorial has statues of Mahatma Gandhi and 80 Satyagrahis who had marched with him during the historic Dandi Salt March from Ahmedabad to Dandi. It also has 24-narrative murals depicting various events and stories from the historic 1930 Salt March.

Modi has also inaugurated the Smt. Rasilaben Seventilal Shah Venus Hospital in Surat, during his one day visit to the state.

PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone for expansion of the terminal building of Surat airport. An official statement stated that the new terminal building will be spread over a whopping 5,500 square meters, and constructed at a cost of around Rs 354 crore. It is also proposed to be an eco-friendly building that would lit up with of solar energy and LED lighting.

On January 29, PM Modi had tweeted about his schedule, where he will be inaugurating the ‘National Salt Satyagraha Memorial’ in Dandi in the memory of Mahatama Gandhi.

“Tomorrow, on Bapu’s Punya Tithi, I will be in Dandi, the place from where Bapu challenged the might of colonialism. In Dandi, the National Salt Satyagraha Memorial will be dedicated to the nation. This is a tribute to Satyagrahis led by Gandhi Ji, who worked for India’s freedom,” the had PM tweeted.
