Glacier breaks in Uttarakhand's Chamoli; Rescue Operation Underway
A large part of the glacier is collapsed near Tapovan in Uttarakhand. Due to this, the dam built on Rishiganga has broken. There is a possibility of loss of heavy life and property. The rescue team has been sent.
New Delhi: The destruction of glacier in Niti Valley of Chamoli district. An alert has also been issued in Haridwar and Rishikesh. With this, rafting has been banned. DM gave orders to clear the Ganga Ghats. Preparations to shift people settled along the Ganges to government buildings. Alaknanda river flowing at high speed. The water level of the Ganges can also increase in the plains.
Glacier collapsed near Joshimath:
Rainy village near Joshimath and the area around it are the most affected. According to preliminary information, 10,000 people are getting affected. It also has people who were living on the banks of the river as well as laborers who were working in the dam.
Expressing concern over this incident in Uttarakhand, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has tweeted. Kejriwal said, 'The news of the disaster from Chamoli district is very worrying, I pray to God for the safety and efficiency of all people. In this difficult time, the Delhi government is ready to provide all possible help to the people of Uttarakhand.
The river in the Dholganga Valley and Alaknanda Valley took a form of ravine due to floods from the broken iceberg in the upper catchment area of Rishiganga originating from the Nanda Devi National Park, a private company located near the village of Rani at the confluence of the Rishiganga and Dhauli Ganga. The Rishiganga power project has suffered extensive damage. Also, due to the velocity of flooding along the banks of Dhauli Ganga, there is tremendous erosion.
The dam was damaged due to the glacier burst. Causing flooding in the Dholi River. Tapovan barrage completely demolished. A portion of the dam of the power project on the Rishiganga River in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand has been broken. This has increased the flow in the Alaknanda River. On the information, the district administration and the police team have rushed to the spot. After the incident, an alert has been issued in the plains including Rishikesh, Haridwar.
NDRF team to reach the spot:
4 teams of NDRF will reach the spot in no time. According to preliminary information, the dam has been damaged due to the glacier burst and due to that flash floods have occurred. The team of ITBP Uttarakhand Police, National Disaster Relief Force and State Disaster Relief Force have left for the spot.
In Uttarakhand, the SDRF team is working to evacuate people living on the banks of the river, so that everyone can be taken to safe places. Teams are constantly working to evacuate people in places where there is news of more damage.
