Gandhi Jayanti 2020: Father of the Nation's connection with Lucknow

Lucknow: People all over the world know Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi by the name of Mahatma Gandhi, but very few people will know that Mahatma Gandhi first got recognition in Lucknow by this name.

Earlier people used to call him Barrister Gandhi. This is the time when the Congress session was held in Lucknow. The convention in 1916 was presided over by Congress leader Ambika Charan Mazumdar.

Gandhiji met Pt. Nehru for first time in Lucknow:

Mahatma Gandhi visited Lucknow many times. It is also a coincidence that Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of the country and Gandhiji first met at Charbagh railway station in Lucknow. By the way, Bapu had come for the first time at the session of Lucknow Congress.

Congress session held by Gandhiji:

On 26 December 1916, Gandhiji addressed the gathering along with Nehru at the Charbagh station. In March 1936, Gandhi came here again for the second time to attend the Congress session held under the chairmanship of Jawaharlal Nehru.

In this session, many big leaders of Congress met each other. Then after this Gandhiji had to come to Lucknow. Not only this, during his stay in Lucknow several times between the years 1916 to 1939, Gandhiji visited here.

Satyagrah Movement:

Gandhiji also came to Lucknow on 11 March 1919, 15 October 1920, 26 February 1921, 8 August 1921, 17 October 1925, 27 October 1929 to create awareness for the freedom movement. Whenever Gandhiji used to visit UP, he used to come to Lucknow. After this, he used to go for migration to other districts.

Mahatma Gandhi came to Lucknow many times and during many visits stayed here for many days. Congress conference in Lucknow, Lucknow Pact, Ek bhasha ek Lipi conference, gathering of Satyagraha supporters - There were many such important events in which the Father of the Nation participated.

Many historic building in his memories:

His historic public meeting of Hindu Muslim unity at Amiruddaula Park in the capital on August 7 in Lucknow is still a miracle. During the Congress session in Lucknow, Mahatma Gandhi made a proposal regarding the indentured laborers. Which was unanimously accepted. Apart from this, many other important resolutions were also passed in the presence of Mahatma Gandhi.

A building of the Secretariat in Lucknow is known as Bapu Bhavan. There are statues of Gandhi at various places in the city including Bapu Bhawan, Gandhi Bhavan. Mahatma Gandhi Marg, many parks in Gandhi's name remind him again and again.
