Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav appeared in a special CBI court in Bihar's capital, on Tuesday, for a case of his alleged involvement in a multi-crore fodder scam case.

Lalu had appeared in the case along with another former Bihar Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra, who is also an accused in the scam.

It is to be mentioned that both the former CMs were on bail after serving jail term in Ranchi in another fodder scam case. The case relates to withdrawing Rs 47 lakh fraudulently from the Bhagalpur treasury and was registered by the investigative agency in 1996. A charge-sheet was also filed by the CBI, later, naming 44 accused including Lalu Prasad and Mishra.

Last month, the Supreme Court had set aside the Jharkhand High Court order that had dropped conspiracy charges against Lalu Prasad and ruled that the former Bihar CM will have to stand trial in all the four fodder scam cases.

The fodder scam relates to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 900 crore by the Animal Husbandry Department from various district when Lalu Prasad was the Chief Minister.
