Explosion in cracker godown kills four in Punjab; CM condoles

Sangrur: At least four persons have lost their lives and three others sustained injuries after an explosion in a cracker factory in Sular Gharat village in Sangrur on Tuesday.

The two-storey factory building was completely damaged in a blast which took place at 9 pm.

Fire tenders were pressed into action and medical teams also rushed to the spot.

"It was private godown and situated in residential area near Gurdwara. The blast took place in two storage building. The death of 4 people is confirmed and one more is suspected. The rescue operation is on” said SSP Sidhu.

”We are yet to know the cause of the blast. As of now our focus is on relief measures and to assess the damage. A probe will be done to find out the reasons," Deputy commissioner AS Virk, Sangrur, said.

Expressing grief over the tragic incident, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh ordered free treatment for injured.

The reason of fire could not be ascertained.
