New Delhi: The Election Commission on Tuesday ordered that images of politicians will be removed from hoardings and advertisements in the five poll-bound states including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur and Goa.

“The photo of political leaders in all hoardings, advertisements that aim to project the achievements of any living political functionaries or political party should be removed or covered,” instructed EC to Chief Electoral Officers.

Earlier, Congress demanded EC regarding the removal PM Modi photograph from government posters at public places, including petrol pumps, in the five election-bound states.

The Model Code of Conduct is applied in the five-election bound states, where elections will be held from February 4 to March 8. The counting of votes will take place on March 11.
