New Delhi: In the Modi government, Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan will take over as the Executive Board President of the World Health Organization (WHO) on 22 May. Dr. Harsh Vardhan is one of the leading people in India's fight against the corona virus. Harsh Vardhan will replace Dr. Hiroki Nakatani of Japan. The Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO) has 34 members.

On May 19, 194 countries passed a resolution to appoint Dr. Harsh Vardhan, nominated on behalf of India, at the WHO meeting. The South East Asia Group of WHO unanimously decided last year that India be elected to the Executive Board for a three-year term.

Officials say Harshvardhan will be selected on 22 May at the WHO Executive Board meeting. The post of chairman among the regional groups is held by rotation for a year and it was decided last year that India's candidate for the first year starting on Friday would be the chairman of the executive board.

Harsh Vardhan addressed the 73rd World Health Assembly through video conferencing on Monday. He said that India took all necessary steps on time to counter the COVID-19 epidemic. He claimed that the country has done well in dealing with the disease and is confident of doing better in the coming months.
