COVID-19: India Reports Over 63,489 Covid Cases in Last 24 Hours

A spike of 63,489 coronavirus cases in 24 hours took India's Covid-19 tally to over 25.89 lakh on Sunday, while the number of fatalities neared 50,000 with 944 deaths due to the infection.

COVID-19: India Reports Over 63,489 Covid Cases in Last 24 Hours

A spike of 63,489 coronavirus cases in 24 hours took India's Covid-19 tally to over 25.89 lakh on Sunday, while the number of fatalities neared 50,000 with 944 deaths due to the infection, the Union Health Ministry data showed.

The total coronavirus cases in India on Sunday stood at 25,89,682, while the death toll climbed to 49,980, data updated on Sunday showed. There are 6,77,444 active cases in the country.

According to the figures from the health ministry, 18,62,258 people have so far recuperated from the coronavirus.

COVID-19 Cases:

India has been reporting over 60,000 cases daily since August 7, barring August 11 when the country registered 53,601 new instances of the infection.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 2,93,09,703 samples have been tested up to August 15. Of these, 7,46,608 samples were tested on Saturday.

India had crossed the 25 lakh mark in its coronavirus cases on Saturday.

On Saturday, India had reported a spike of 65,002 cases which took India's coronavirus caseload past 25 lakh, just a day after it crossed the 24 lakh mark.

Meanwhile, Pune district reported 2,432 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, taking its case count to 1,22,397. Rajasthan recorded highest single-day spike of 1,287 fresh coronavirus cases and 16 deaths due to the disease on Saturday, taking the state's infection tally to 59,979.

Delhi recorded 1,276 fresh coronavirus cases on Saturday, taking the caseload to over 1.51 lakh, while the death toll rose to 4,188 with 10 new fatalities, authorities said.

Karnataka on Saturday reported the biggest single-day spike of over 8,800 new cases of Covid-19 and 114 related fatalities. With this, the total number of infections rose to 2,19,926 and death toll to 3,831 in the state, the health department said.
