New Delhi: Omicron variant patients have been found in 94% of samples from Kerala sent for genome sequencing. The delta variant has been found in the rest of the samples.

Talking to reporters in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala Health Minister Veena George said that genome sequencing of covid positive patients is being done continuously. Omicron was found in 94 percent of patients and a delta variant in 6 percent. Along with this, he also said that the third wave in Kerala is 'Omicron wave', it is not clear.

94% omicron cases in Kerala:

The Kerala minister said that less than four percent of the state's covid patients needed to be hospitalised. Of those admitted, less than one percent required oxygen. Only 3.6 per cent of the total positive cases in Kerala are hospitalised. Of these, 0.7 per cent required oxygen beds and only 0.6 per cent required ICU.

George said that out of the total active cases in the state, 3.6 percent were admitted to the hospital. Of these, 0.7 per cent required oxygen and 0.6 per cent needed ICU. According to the Union Health Ministry, till January 27, there were a total of 22,02,472 active cases in the country.

The positivity rate of samples was 17.75 per cent last week. There were more than 50 thousand active cases in 11 states. Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala had more than 3 lakh active cases. The Joint Secretary of the Ministry, Lav Aggarwal said that 14 states had 1 lakh to 50 thousand active cases, while 11 states had less than 10 thousand active cases.

In the last 24 hours, 2,51,209 new cases of corona were reported in the country and 627 people died and 3,47,443 people were cured of corona in the last day. The daily positivity rate stood at 15.88 percent. Let us tell you that out of 627 deaths, 153 people have lost their lives in Kerala alone.
