New Delhi: Indigenous vaccine Covaxin has been 77.8 percent effective against covid-19. This information has been received from a study published in the medical journal Lancet. In the war against the corona virus, only the covaxin is being used after the Covishield of the Serum Institute of India. The vaccine has been developed by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the National Institute of Virology (NIV) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Covaxin is 77.8% effective:

A statement was issued by the Lancet that the covaxin using inactivated virus technology initiates a strong antibody process two weeks after two doses are given. The journal states that no serious cases of vaccine-related deaths were reported during the trial. In this trial, which ran from November 2020 to May 2021 in India, 24 thousand 419 participants in the age group of 18-97 participated.

Funding for internal studies was given by Bharat Biotech and ICMR. Along with this, officials of both the institutions were also involved to some extent. It is being said that these figures can be helpful in dealing with the controversy over getting early approval in India. Covaxin was approved in India in January. During that time the final round of vaccine trials were yet to be completed.

The WHO's approval of the vaccine earlier this month will make international travel easier for Indians who have taken a dose of the vaccine, and India is also in talks with countries that want to recognize anti-Covid-19 vaccines manufactured by Bharat Biotech. Separate orders are being issued for The Ministry of External Affairs gave this information on Thursday.

'All 96 or more countries will accept both vaccines'

Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said that 96 countries have either approved vaccines approved by WHO or some countries have approved only covishield or Covaxin. WHO has approved both the Covishield and Covaxin vaccines. He said, 'But we hope that with WHO's approval of covaxin , this list will expand and all 96 or more countries will accept both vaccines. I think it (approval) will go a long way in easing foreign travel for Indians who have taken a dose of the vaccine.
