New Delhi: The further decision on lockdown in India can be decided today. Actually, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is doing a meeting today through video conferencing with the Chief Ministers of all the states. This meeting is considered very important because the lockdown period is about to end.

PM Narendra Modi said in a meeting with the Chief Ministers that we have benefited from the lockdown. The impact of collective efforts is now visible.

The discussion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Ministers of about 9 states presentED their report. These included CMs of Meghalaya, Mizoram, Gujarat, Bihar, Odisha, Puducherry, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Uttarakhand. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has not attended this meeting.

This is PM Modi's fourth such interaction with state chief ministers since March 22 when he discussed coronavirus situation and steps taken -both by the Centre and the states- to contain the pandemic. Two days later on March 24, Modi announced a 21-day nationwide lockdown. He extended the lockdown by 19 days on April 14, the last day of the initial three week shutdown, till May 3.

Major Points to discuss:

It is being told that in this meeting PM Modi will discuss 3 major points with the Chief Ministers.

First, the status of corona infection in states and union territories and steps taken to prevent new containment zones and discussion on their work.

Secondly, PM Modi will discuss the adherence to the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding April 20.

Third- the most important, discussion will be based on the extension of the lockdown according to situation of particular state in this meeting. It may be decided whether to extend the lockdown period after May 3 and if it is to be extended, in which states and regions, on what basis.

States have the freedom to take decision:

According to sources the decision on lockdown can be given to the states. PM can give the right to lockdown decision to the state governments. It is being told that many states are in favor of increasing the lockdown.

Lockdown2.0: Current Situation in India

The number of deaths due to Covid-19 in the country has increased to 824 while the number of patients infected with Corona virus has crossed 27 thousand. According to the Union Health Ministry, 19868 patients of Covid-19 are still under treatment, while 5803 people have been cured and have been discharged from hospitals.
