Thane (Maharashtra): Congress leader Manoj Mhatre was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the Bhiwandi city of Maharashtra on Tuesday night.

The police said, "The motive behind the murder is not yet known. There have been attempts to kill Mhatre in the past. A manhunt has been launched to nab the gunmen"

The leader was attacked with the sharp weapons by the assailants.

The corporator was immediately taken to Jupiter Hospital in Thane, where he was declared dead by doctors.
