Tehran: Marking India's 70th Independence Day, Shia Muslim cleric Maulana Syed Kalbe Jawad Naqvi on Monday hoisted the national tricolour and gave it a ceremonial salute at an Indian embassy in the capital of Iran.

The embassy’s workforce including Ambassador Saurabh Kumar gave a warm welcome to the cleric. Expressing their love for the nation, Indian students from different parts of Iran visited the embassy to mark their presence at the Independence Day function.

“I have been visiting the embassy every year on August 15 to celebrate the Independence Day of our nation since I am staying in Iran. Moreover, this year the ceremony has turned out to be very special as I found Maulana Kalbe Jawad as its chief guest,” said Mohammad Ammaar, an Indian student from Isfahan city in Iran.

A score of students coming from Qom city personally thanked the ambassador for inviting the cleric at the prominent event and pleasing the Indians in Iran.
