Centre makes Aadhar Card must for filing income tax returns; PAN applications

New Delhi: The government on Tuesday proposed to make Aadhar Card mandatory to apply for Permanent Account Number (PAN) and for filing Income Tax Returns (ITR).

The step will be applied from July 1.

The decision was taken through an amendment to the Finance Bill in the Parliament.

It may be mentioned here that Centre had earlier made it clear that Aadhar will become more important in the coming days.

Earlier, Aadhar Card was made mandatory for availing the facility of mid-day meal scheme and subsidised food grain from all Public Distribution System (PDS) shops.
