NEW DELHI: Uttarakhand chief minister Harish Rawat was questioned here on Tuesday by CBI in connection with probe into the sting operation in which he was involved

Accompanied by some party members of state legislative assembly and followers he reached the CBI headquarters at 11am.

He appeared for questioning as his plea against it was rejected by the CBI. The Uttarakhand high court too had not entertained his request.

The CBI said that the decision to call him was taken after seeking legal opinion which found the ground given by him as " legally untenable".The "sting operation" purportedly showed Rawat offering bribes to rebel Congress assembly members to support him during the floor test. Taking notice, the C BI had summoned him on May 9.He sought time as he was certain of his victory during the floor test. Following victory his government opposed the CBI action and expressed itself in favour of constitution of a special investigation team by the Uttarakhand government.
