New Delhi: The budget session starts today. The President will address the joint sitting of the two houses and the budget will be presented on 1 February. On Friday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will also present the Economic Survey of 2020-2021. The General Budget for the financial year 2021-22 will run in two parts, the budget session will run till 8 April. The first phase of the budget session will run from today to February 15, while the second part will run from March 8 to April 8.

President Ram Nath Kovind, during his address, referred to the success of the Zilla Parishad elections held in Jammu and Kashmir for the first time since independence, which triggered a long applause in the House.

The President said that a few days ago, sections of the Eastern and Western Dedicated Freight Corridors have been dedicated to the country. These freight corridors will encourage industrialization in eastern India as well as reduce unnecessary delays in rail travel.

The President said that be it submarine optical fiber cable from Chennai to Port Blair, be it Atal Tunnel or Char Dham road project, our country continued to pursue development works.

Jal Jeevan Mission:

President Ramnath Kovind said, "My government is working on the ambitious plan of 'Jal Jeevan Mission'. Under this, along with delivering 'every house water', water conservation is also being done at a fast pace. Under this campaign 3 crore families have been connected to the pipe water supply till now.

Improving the standard of living of the people of the village is a priority: President

The President said, "The standard of living of the people of the village should improve, this is the priority of my government. The best example of this is 2 crore houses built for poor rural families since 2014. The pace of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has also been accelerated to provide a solid roof to every poor by the year 2022.
