Panaji: Intelligence inputs have suggested that Eighth BRICS summit is under the radar of terrorists who have planned to carry out a massive operation in Goa between October 12 and October 14.

According the intelligence agencies the terrorists have planned to target the BRICS event which is scheduled to be attended by the heads of 11 states, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin. These leaders will also be attending the BIMSTEC Summit scheduled to take place on October 15 and October 16 in Goa.

Security arrangements being reviewed:

  • The security arrangements were reviewed by the National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and senior Navy officials and other defence forces and the latest inputs by the intelligence were also analysed.
  • According to the defence officials, ground, air and even underwater multi-level security apparatus have been checked and put in place and commandos have been deployed to secure the key locations of the state including the Goa Airport.

K9 teams rush to Goa:

  • The K9 teams of the Indo-Tibetan Border (ITBP) have been asked to assist the Goa police and the local Army Dog Squad in securing the meeting venues and the hotels where the BRICS leaders would stay.
  • The K9 units of dogs are highly decorated after preventing Indian Embassy at Kabul several times from getting harmed by the attacks of Pakistan-trained Taliban.
