Panaji: Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping along with the leaders of Brazil and South Africa, who, on Saturday arrived in Goa to attend the Eighth BRICS Summit.

PM Modi will also participate in the 17th India-Russia Annual Summit with the Russian President Putin and will also attend the first ever BIMSTEC Outreach Summit 2016. “The outreach with BIMSTEC leaders is significant,” stated Modi in one of his tweets.

The Indian PM said, “We are looking forward to discussing a range of key issues including confronting threat of terror and boosting trade and investment during this meet.”

PM Modi will also hold bilateral talks with Putin and Jinping on the sidelines of the summit.

Nations in BRICS and BIMSTEC:

  • The BRICS group comprises of five member countries namely, Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
  • The seven-member BIMSTEC bloc has Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bhutan and Nepal in it.
