BMC Polls 2017: Mumbai records 52.17 per cent voter turnout

Mumbai: Voting in the 10 municipal corporations concluded at 5.30 pm on Tuesday with Mumbai observing 52.17 per cent voter turnout in the Maharashtra civic body polls.

Voting in other municipal corporations remained as under:

Thane: 53.11 per cent

Ulhasnagar: 46.83 per cent

Nashik: 52.63 per cent

Pune: 49.52 per cent

Pimpri-Chinchwad: 51.86 per cent

Solapur: 44 per cent

Akola: 51.62 per cent

Amravati: 42.39 per cent

Nagpur: 49.95 per cent.

Over 1.95 crore voters decided the fate of 2,275 candidates, who were in the fray for 227 municipal wards in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.

As many as 43,160 polling booths were set up with adequate security arrangements for peaceful voting.

Celebrities including actors Anushka Sharma, Rekha, Shreyas Talpade, Prem Chopra, Shraddha Kapoor, filmmaker Subhash Ghai, Gulzar and many more voted in Mumbai.

Cricket maestro star Sachin Tendulkar along with wife Anjali exercised their franchise.

Politicians including MNS Chief Raj Thackeray, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis used their voting rights.

Counting of votes will take place on February 23.
