Blast in Intercity Express in Assam; three injured

Guwahati: Three people sustained injuries as blast took place in passenger train at harisinga in Udalguri district of Assam.

The area where blast occurred is about 155 kilometres from Guwahati.

The incident took place at 1704 hours in the Kamakhya-Dekargaon Intercity Express train.

According to North East Frontier Railway (NFR), "N Bhattacharya said that one passenger sustained head injury and has been rushed to a government hospital. While two others sustained minor injuries."

DGP (civil defence) Pallab Bhattacharya said that the explosion just before the train reached the station.

DGP said, "The sound from the blast seem to be of a low-intensity improvised explosive device (IED). Police officials

have rushed to the spot and it is difficult to ascertain what kind of blast it was."

The officer said that technical glitch could also be the reason for the explosion. Police said the investigation is on and we are examining the reason behind the blast.
