Bihar DGP Gupteshwar Pandey takes VRS; May contest for Election

DGP Gupteshwar Pandey has taken voluntary retirement (VRS) ahead of the Bihar assembly elections. After the approval of the Home Department, the application of his VRS has been accepted by the Governor.

Patna: DGP Gupteshwar Pandey has taken voluntary retirement (VRS) ahead of the Bihar assembly elections. After the approval of the Home Department, the application of his VRS has been accepted by the Governor. Now his Janata Dal United ticket is considered to be decided in the Bihar Assembly elections. DG Sanjeev Singhal, Fire Service and Home Guard, in place of Gupteshwar Pandey, has been given additional charge of DGP, Bihar.

DGP Gupteshwar Pandey takes VRS before Bihar Election:

Gupteshwar Pandey, considered very close to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, was given the command of the post of DGP of the state on 31 January last year. He had about 5 months left in his tenure.

His tenure as DGP was till 28 February next year but he decided to take VRS. He will be the first officer in the state to contest from the post of DGP with VRS.

Now Gupteshwar Pandey is scheduled to contest on JDU ticket. Gupteshwar Pandey has said through his tweet that he will come live on September 23 and tell his story to the people. It is being considered a sign of his activeness in politics by telling his story live on social media.

In recent times, Gupteshwar Pandey was very active in the Sushant case which became the subject of discussion all over the country. He reacted sharply to not doing well with the Bihar police team that reached Mumbai to investigate the Sushant case. He had a big attack on Mumbai Police and BMC.

Along with this, he was also enraged when Rhea Chakraborty, the main accused in Sushant case, raised questions against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He raised questions about the status of Rhea Chakraborty, which was much debated. Later, he had to explain a lot about this.

Gupteshwar Pandey has served in many important positions during his service in Bihar Police. He has also been posted as IG in the Special Branch. Along with this, he has also been posted as the IG and headquarters of Muzaffarpur and Darbhanga zones as ADG. He has a good popularity with the government as well as among the people and his image is that of crime control and strong administrator.
