Bihar DM's concern for women sanitation lands him in trouble

Patna: A District Magistrate in Bihar Kanwal Tanuj stoked a controversy in the entire nation while speaking at an event. The DM sparked off controversy after saying that those men, who cannot build a toilet for their wives, should sell them.

This statement has made him land into the pool of controversy with many political parties trying to encash on his words by showing their anger.

The Samajwadi Party on Monday demanded action against the DM, urging Nitish Kumar for strict punishment to the IAS officer.

One of the party members stated, "He is an IAS officer and they are trained to have control on their language. Their salary comes out of the tax paid by people. His remark is against his conduct rules. Action should be taken against him. I would want to urge the government and the Chief Minister to take strict action against him."

Tanuj, who was addressing a cleanliness drive in Jamhore village of the Aurangabad district in the state, on Saturday last, raged people when he stated, “Those who cannot build toilet should sell or auction his wife.”

The DM, however, did not mean to disrespect the female population. He was trying to show his anger towards the mindset of the patriarch society of Bihar. Kanwal Tanuj had stated, "Due to lack of toilets, women get raped and harassed. It only costs Rs. 12,000 for the construction of the toilet. Is 12,000 more than anyone's wife's dignity? Who can let her wife get raped in return of Rs 12000? If this is your mentality then go and sell your wife.”
